What are Totchos?

Totchos have all your favorite nacho toppings but frozen potato tater tots are used instead of tortilla chips. We know everyone loves nachos, but these tater tot nachos are pretty much the ultimate in party food.

  • Tater tots —we used and recommend Ore-Ida brand frozen tater tots. We tested these with generic tots before and they just don't hold up.
  • Ground beef — use what fat content you have on hand, but the leaner it is, the less renderings to drain off.
  • Produce — onions for the taco meat, green onions are used in the layers. Jalapeños
  • Taco seasoning — we used Taco Bell brand packet.
  • Cheeses — sharp cheddar and jack cheese are what we used.
  • Toppings — Sour cream, guacamole, black olives, and your favorite salsa.

Adaptations and variations for Tater Tot Nachos

Meat — swap out the ground beef for either ground turkey or ground chicken.

Cheese — pepper Jack, Mexican cheese blend, and even nacho cheese sauce would all work. However, pre-shredded cheese doesn't always melt well and can leave a bit of a funny taste.

Layers — add refried beans, black beans, or pinto beans on top of the meat.

Toppings — The possibilities are endless: diced cherry tomatoes, pickled jalapeños, diced red onions, pico de gallo, fresh cilantro, and a drizzle of fresh squeezed lime juice.
