What percentage does OWCP pay? ›

OWCP pays compensation at 66 2/3% of your pay rate (if you have no eligible dependents) or at 75% (if you have at least one eligible dependent), while official leave is paid at 100% of your pay rate.

Your time on OWCP will count as creditable years of service towards your retirement. This is a major benefit as we see a lot of federal employees utilizing OWCP benefits before switching over to Federal Disability Retirement.

Subject to the exceptions expressly provided in the Act and regulations, the claimant bears the burden of providing OWCP with all written medical documentation, contemporaneous records, or other records and documents necessary to establish any and all claim criteria.

Schedule awards are paid for a certain number of weeks, calculated by multiplying the percentage of impairment of a body part (determined by the rating physician) times the number of weeks set out in the schedule in the FECA for that body part.

PPI ratings are ordinarily measured as a percentage of the body as a whole. So, someone with a back injury and a 7% PPI rating is said to have a 7% permanent partial impairment to the body as a whole.

An impairment rating of 100% usually means that the person has a permanent total disability.

How Long Can You Stay on OWCP Compensation? It is important to know that one can stay on federal workers' compensation for as long as they are injured and has the supporting medical report affirming the same.

You can receive and be approved for OWCP Federal Workers' Compensation and Social Security Disability at the same time. However, there will be an offset between these two benefits. You can only receive up to 80% of your pay from both benefits combined.

The amount a schedule award pays will vary based on your assigned impairment rating from your doctor.
