Today, we're announcing that DLSS is coming to Turtle Rock Studios' much anticipated co-op zombie shooter, Back 4 Blood, at launch. DLSS will also be available this month in Escape From Naraka on July 29th, and has launched in F1^Ⓡ 2021, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Rust this month.

What Does DLSS Do? DLSS is a form of machine learning that uses an AI model to analyze in-game frames and construct new ones—either at higher resolution or in addition to the existing frames. It uses Supersampling to sample a frame at a lower resolution, then uses that sample to construct a higher resolution frame.

DLSS can boost your frame rates but at the cost of some fine detail. The effect becomes more noticeable as the starting resolution is lowered.

If you select 4K resolution and choose DLSS Quality mode, the game will render at 1440p resolution. DLSS upscales the result to 4K. 1440p resolution requires less GPU grunt to render, so the game's framerate improves. However, it's important to understand that DLSS uses neural rendering to upscale the image.

All Nvidia cards branded with RTX support DLSS, but to varying degrees. At the time of writing, only RTX 40 GPUs on the Ada Lovelace architecture, like the RTX 4090, support DLSS 3's frame generation technology, even though all RTX GPUs have AI hardware.

If this is correct, you should be able to test for this by carefully comparing screenshots looking at objects in the distance, and it probably is the same for TAA with render scaling as well. DLSS reduces load on the gpu and therefore puts more onus on the cpu.
