Acquisition[]

Unlocks after completing the operation Continue Investigation. This mission is the final part of a logic grid puzzle in which the player must identify a Venatori agent from clues uncovered by the advisors.

Note: This operation will not appear or will be removed from the war table if Iron Bull becomes Tal-Vashoth during his companion quest Demands of the Qun.

Operation text[]

An excerpt from a Ben-Hassrath information report:

All information about the Five Belles of Hunter Fell has come back negative. The Tal-Vashoth is not the bard, the elf is not the Mortalitasi, and the dwarf is not the smuggler.

And an addendum:

We have learned that the Fereldan is the Venatori agent, but unless we can link her to a specific background quickly, we will lose this lead. We must remove the target immediately to stop Duke Tythas from falling prey to Venatori interests.

Advisor suggestions[]

Note: The time listed is the time it takes with no agents.

Josephine - 24:00:00[]

Have Iron Bull tell the Ben-Hassrath to eliminate the bard.

Leliana - 19:12:00[]

Have Iron Bull tell the Ben-Hassrath to eliminate the smuggler.

Cullen - 24:00:00[]

Have Iron Bull tell the Ben-Hassrath to take down the Mortalitasi.

Results[]

Josephine / Cullen[]

An excerpt from a Ben-Hassrath information report:

The target was eliminated, and as expected, all other targets went into hiding immediately. Duke Tythas did not locate our operatives during his search.

The recent move to expedite movement of Tevinter mercenaries through Hunter Fell suggests that we eliminated the wrong target. Duke Tythas remains subject to Venatori influence. Hunter Fell must be considered a hostile city.

Per his request, operative "Iron Bull" will receive further intelligence reports to improve efforts in the future.

Leliana[]

An excerpt from a Ben-Hassrath information report:

The target was eliminated, and as expected, all other targets went into hiding. Duke Tythas did not locate our operatives during his search.

Information the duke found on the corpse revealed the smuggler's Venatori involvement. Duke Tythas has cut off trade with the Tevinter Imperium and is thoroughly investigating his city. Hunter Fell is no longer subject to Venatori influence.

Per his request, operative "Iron Bull" will receive further intelligence reports to continue his efforts. Supplies from Seheron have also been dispatched.

Rewards[]

Josephine[]

  • 60 Influence

Leliana[]

  • 100 Influence
  • Elfsnake Vitaar
  • The Venatori agent is uncovered as the smuggler

Cullen[]

  • 60 Influence

Notes[]

  • The operation text provides the player additional clues for the logic grid puzzle: the Tal-Vashoth is not the bard, the elf is not the Mortalitasi, the dwarf is not the smuggler, and the target is the Fereldan human. The player's goal is to match each race given in Investigate Hunter Fell with a different background in order to identify the background of the Fereldan human (the Venatori agent). Each advisor will send the Ben-Hassrath to assassinate a different target.
  • After Investigate Hunter Fell and Continue Investigation, all players should now have the following information, which is available regardless of advisor combinations from the previous operations:
    • The Five Belles of Hunter Fell are an Orlesian human, a Fereldan human, an elf, a dwarf, and a Tal-Vashoth
    • The Five Belles of Hunter Fell are a Mortalitasi, a dragon hunter, a bard, a smuggler, and an apostate
    • The Venatori agent is the Fereldan human
    • The Tal-Vashoth is not a mage
    • The Tal-Vashoth is not the smuggler
    • The Tal-Vashoth is not the bard
    • The Dwarf is not the smuggler
    • The Elf is not the Mortalitasi
  • This additional information comes from understanding the following Dragon Age lore:
    • A Mortalitasi is a Nevarran 'death mage'
    • An apostate is a type of mage
    • Dwarves have no magical ability and thus cannot be mages
  • Since the player must kill either the bard, the smuggler, or the Mortalitasi, assume the target must be one of those three. The key pieces of information to discover during the investigation are the profession of the elf and the identity of the Mortalitasi:

Clues obtained during Investigate Hunter Fell:

This section contains spoilers for:
Dragon Age: Inquisition.

  • Josephine determines that the Elf is NOT the smuggler. Based on the information always available, she must be the the apostate.
  • Cullen determines that the apostate is NOT a human. Based on the information always available, she must be the Elf.
  • Leliana, however, does not learn either of these pieces of information. She does however learn that the Bard is NOT Elf or Human.

Clues obtained during Continue Investigation:

This section contains spoilers for:
Dragon Age: Inquisition.

  • Josephine determines that the Tal-Vashoth and Orlesian are enemies, due to the Orlesian "binding corpses with magic." This identifies her as a necromancer, at the very least, but considering the puzzle Mortalitasi is the logical conclusion.
  • Cullen determines that the Mortalitasi is "friendly with the Fereldan and the dwarf, and a Circle member in good standing." This means that the Mortalitasi is NOT Fereldan. Based on the information always available, the only option is the Orlesian.
  • Leliana determines that both the Orlesian and the elf are the two mages of the Five Belles. Based on the information always available, apostate is the only 'mage' job available to the Elf, while both are available to the Orlesian. Therefore, the Orlesian is the Mortalitasi.

Logic Grid Puzzle Solution:

This section contains spoilers for:
Dragon Age: Inquisition.

  • The correct solution is to follow Leliana's advice and assassinate the smuggler. Even missing the information to complete the full logic grid (which is possible with a Leliana—non-Leliana advisor combination), identifying the Mortalitasi is sufficient, as the bard is always identifiable by working backwards with the Ben-Hassrath's information. With the smuggler as the only remaining option for the Fereldan human, that is the only option that can lead to a positive outcome.
    • The Orlesian human is the Mortalitasi
    • The Fereldan human is the smuggler and the Venatori agent
    • The elf is the apostate
    • The dwarf is the bard
    • The Tal-Vashoth is the dragon hunter
  • The only way the player's own investigation can be wrong is assuming the Orlesian is an apostate, which would falsely identify the elf as a smuggler and the Fereldan as the Mortalitasi.

Bugs[]

  • If this operation is started prior to completing Iron Bull's companion quest Demands of the Qun, and the quest is finished while the operation is still in progress, the operation is also removed from the war table. The advisor selected for the operation will be unavailable for the remainder of the duration of time left to complete the operation.
