It’s time to service my TC 30 again, and my supply of NH 134 Hydraulic Oil is insufficient to handle the service --- so it’s time to buy more. However, I’d like to buy a generic, and therefore cheaper, oil, but don’t know what to buy. Or even if it’s advisable to switch to a cheaper oil.

The tractor just rolled over 300 hours.

Also i get all my filters, air ,oil, etc. at carquest there cheaper and closer than the dealer. Napa also has filters for NH too. I was told by the service forman at my NH dealer to change the fuel filter each time you change your engine oil. There cheap and helps keep the inj. clean dont forget to fill the filter with diesel additive too.

I used the TSC UTF for 3.5 years with NO problems. I've now switched to the Walmart UTF for the last year and a half.. again.. no problems.

TSC has the 6g for 5g price right now. And walmart is generally the cheapest for 5g.. so I would think it is between those 2.

Ok.. just called TSC.. 34.98 for their pails of UTF here in florida. That's the 5g price.. but will cover the larger pails 'while supplies last.

At my local walmart the 5g pails of UTF now cost 31.62 ( I remember when they were 17.77 .. I bought enough to do my ford 5000 and NH 7610s. They each take int he 40+ qt range to change.. etc. )

I'm sure pricing is regional.. so call around..

What is 134 hydraulic fluid? ›

It is a medium-duty oil, with good anti-wear properties. The specifications are the same or higher than those for many other oils, and it can be used as a replacement for several, including Ford Tractor M2C134B, M2C159B2, Stieger Hydraulic Transmission SEMS 17001, White Q17001 and Allis Chalmers PF-821XL.

Can I use SAE 30 for hydraulic oil? ›

MAG 1 TO-4 Torque Fluid SAE 30 is a multipurpose lubricant designed for use in transmissions, wet brakes and hydraulic systems requiring a fluid meeting Caterpillar® TO-4 requirements. This fluid has outstanding hydraulic oil stability and allows protection against high-pressure pump wear.

Is tractor hydraulic fluid the same as hydraulic oil? ›

Interestingly, hydraulic fluids for tractors are NOT the same as other hydraulic oils. Tractor hydraulic fluids are specially designed to fulfill multiple functions such as transmissions and differentials, final drives, hydraulics, power steering, wet brakes, and more.

                      Are hydraulic oils compatible? ›

While new hydraulic fluids may be compatible, the existing fluid in use could be degraded or contaminated to an extent that the new fluid added may not be compatible with it.

Can I use transmission fluid as hydraulic oil? ›

Most hydraulic systems will operate satisfactorily using a variety of fluids. These include engine oil, automatic transmission fluid and oil formulated specifically for the hydraulic compartment.

What happens if you use engine oil instead of hydraulic oil? ›

Hydraulic oils are specifically designed using a natural base oil and specific additives that can cope with the severe temperatures, pressures and wear involved in processes. Formulated without these characteristics, an engine oil will break down far faster and will quickly become ineffective.

What other liquid can be used in a hydraulic? ›

Three common varieties of hydraulic fluids found on the market today are petroleum-based, water-based and synthetics. Petroleum-based or mineral-based fluids are the most widely used fluids today. These fluids offer a low-cost, high quality, readily available selection.

Can you use any fluid in a hydraulic system? ›

Most hydraulic systems can operate using many different fluids, including multigrade engine oil, automatic transmission fluid and more conventional antiwear (AW) hydraulic oil. Which oil or fluid you choose depends on your equipment and how you plan to use it.

Does it matter what hydraulic oil you use? ›

Hydraulic oil viscosity is important for each different application. The wrong viscosity could cause damage to equipment or have poor results in function.

Is universal tractor fluid hydraulic fluid? ›

Sinclair Universal Tractor Fluid is a premium quality universal tractor hydraulic fluid formulated with high quality base oils and anti-wear and extreme pressure (EP) additives providing excellent load carrying capacity and wear protection for a wide temperature range and long-term service under severe conditions.

What oil can be used in place of hydraulic fluid? ›

Automatic transmission fluid: Automatic transmission fluids are among the most popular hydraulic fluid substitutes because they have an extensive operating temperature range and can maintain optimal performance in diverse environments. Vegetable seed oils: Most vegetable oils have higher flash and fire points.

Can you mix 10w30 and hydraulic oil? ›

Mixing oils with different additive packages is never recommended. Which hydraulic oil is thicker 32 or 46? ›

AW-46 oil is thicker and has a moderate viscosity, so it is recommended for use in temperate climates where weather is not extreme. A hydraulic system operating in a cold climate, however, would operate better with a lower viscosity oil like AW-32 because the thinner oil will be less resistant to flow on start-up.

Can you mix different viscosity hydraulic oils? ›

As far as possible, it is always best to avoid mixing different hydraulic fluids.
