What type of netting is used for batting cages? ›

There are two batting cage net material types – Poly and Nylon.

Nylon is extremely strong; it's been the traditional material used in batting cages for years and is still the standard choice today. Poly batting cage nets are becoming very popular and will generally hold up better outdoors than nylon.

Backstop netting provides the protection your ballpark or practice field needs. It keeps your property, including walls, windows, doors and scoreboards, safe and prevents injuries to people around the field.

Measuring the length and width for a batting cage net is easy. Measuring the correct height can be trickier. To measure the length and width, you simply take a measuring tape and measure, in feet, the length of the space, and width of the space, keeping in mind nets need to come off any walls at least 2 feet.

Strength: Tarred nylon netting is generally the strongest, followed by polyester netting, and then polyethylene netting.

To build a durable batting cage, you'll need materials such as a batting cage net, PVC pipe or steel rods for the frame, and concrete for anchoring. Tools like a measuring tape, ropes, zip ties, and screws are also necessary.

Let's start with HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene). HDPE is a fancy name for a product that is derived of plastic. Although it has a large strength to density ratio, HDPE in netting will not hold up to extreme persistent weather elements including heat, dryness or snow. It has a burning point of 248 degrees F.

Durability: Nylon monofilament fishing nets have high durability and can maintain strength in harsh environments such as humidity and seawater. Nylon also has relatively good resistance to ultraviolet rays and can maintain stability for a long time under sunlight exposure.

Bilateral netting is when there are two parties involved. If there are more than two parties, it is known as multilateral netting. When multilateral netting occurs, the parties employ the use of a clearinghouse or central exchange to regulate the transactions and impact of netting.
